Highmount, at elevation 2,014 feet, is ski country, home of Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. Pine Hill is tucked aside the Byway just east of Highmount and was once known as the Saratoga of the Catskills because the Crystal Spring Water Company bottled pure spring water on a hillside overlooking the hamlet.
