Flying Cat Music
Flying Cat Music produces approximately fifteen concerts annually, running from March into December, in the picturesque hamlet of Phoenicia, New York. The series, which began in 2009, is a completely volunteer effort dedicated to bringing great Roots and Americana music and superb singer songwriters into our corner of the Catskill Mountains, in the greater Woodstock region. To those who are already familiar with the house concert phenomena, our shows embrace that spirit, but are held, instead, in a historic public venue; an acoustically exquisite former passenger waiting room now part of the Empire State Railway Museum, located at 70 Lower High Street.
Built in 1899, the entire train station features beautiful hardwood surfaces from floor to ceiling, with the latter forming a high wooden dome in the room where concerts are held. These shows offer intimate encounters with the musicians, who hail from all parts of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The domed ceiling creates a spacious feel during concerts although actual seating accommodates less than fifty patrons. As a non profit-making venture, we can offer seats to these shows at surprisingly modest prices given the quality of the performers booked and the intimacy of the venue.
The Flying Cat Music Concert Series brings international artists into the Town of Shandaken representing virtually every aspect of roots and (primarily) acoustic music, from traditional folk to Blues and Bluegrass, from alternative country to Celtic, to cutting edge singer songwriters integrating classical and jazz elements into their original songs. Be sure to request RSVP seating in advance to ensure your spot in our audience, which also qualifies you for a small discount on admission.
Our web site offers additional information on our concert series as well as much more information on both our upcoming artists and those who have performed for Flying Cat Music in the past. Our full schedule of upcoming concerts includes live links to the web sites of all of the musicians who will be appearing at them.
